Organ donation among the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community is challenging. There has been research on Black and Asian views toward organ donation and their user needs within an organ donation service. However, Dr Chloe Sharp did first of its kind primary research on polish migrants.
The research was funded by the University of Bedfordshire and NHS Blood and Transplant. It was found that Polish migrants considered organ donation a positive act and would be willing to donate in the UK.
However, user needs of the service were complex. This is as relatives were likely to reside abroad and, ultimately, it is the next-of-kin who makes the final decision regarding whether someone will donate.
